NVIDIA DRIVER "FN + ARROW" BRIGHTNESS SOLUTION (WORKAROUND).
Hi guys,
1st time poster, let me know if this should go somewhere else.
I don't know if this affects laptops other than the Acer 6920G, but I have seen a few users describing this problem.
Playing around with the buttons as follows, I able to get it working to a satisfactory level.
THE BRIGHTNESS WORKAROUND BUTTON TECHNIQUE:
1. STOP trying to incrementally decrease brightness like this:
fn + left arrow,
left arrow,
left arrow, etc
2. START incrementally decreasing brightness like THIS, keeping fn pressed the entire time:
fn + F6 + left arrow,
F6 + left arrow,
F6 + left arrow, etc
…This obviously applies to INCREASING brightness too. Just follow the steps using ‘right arrow’ instead of ‘left arrow’.

We've spent most of last night and all today liaising with midphase and have gotten the faulty hard drive replaced.
Just finished a restore of the website.
Most things are working except the forums.
Well the forums are working best viewed in LO-FI at the moment.
We'll get this hopefully sorted in the morning.
The blog is working for those that are bored
Sorry for any inconvenience caused, was out of our hands.
For those that doubt what SMART feature does on a Hard Drive rest assured it does work and we were able to save the website from imminent disaster.
Big thanks to James and Jim at Midphase for helping us out with the new Hard Drive.

We are experiencing some server issues.
An older issue with SMART errors has come up again.
The server is at the moment working but slowly and the front page is partly down.
We have MidPhase Engineers looking at the issues, and hope to be back in full very soon.
Please bare with us as we may come and go to get this issue sorted.

Just finished the 3rd time Bake of my go7900GS.
Still surprised it works, could keep on doing this indefinitely.
Must seriously look at upgrading really, cause one day it will no longer work.
So:
Preheat oven to 180degC for 10min
Place Video card or other suspect board in oven
Leave for 10min
turn oven off
Allow to cool for an hour or two.
Above trick has worked on this card 3x now and my original card as well.

Just got told by MrZero that "ChrisRay" Arthington had passed away a few days ago.
He was only 27, which makes us think of our own mortality.
I rubbed shoulders with Chris over at NVNews, but he contributed to many other very popular graphics sites.
He was a general good guy, and will be missed by many.
NVNews have setup a Memorial Thread in his memory for those that knew Chris you can view it here
Please don't confuse this with another Chris Ray that resides much closer to home, he is still very much alive when we spoke a few hours ago.
This very sad news indeed.

Is it me or is ASUS having issues in packing their drivers.
First started with 188.36 x64 with corrupt files in the zip.
Now both versions of 187.57 look to be corrupt as well.
The zip's are fine, just the files inside are corrupt.
Just found 188.36 for XP and this looks like a non corrupt driver.
They are not encrypting their files in any way ?
Quite annoying for ASUS users who cannot get drivers.
Anyone with some insight, please tell us

Profiles should load for all GPU's
CUDA should load properly
3DVision should now load properly (for 8000+ Series GPU's)
OpenCL should load properly
HDAudio will not load, as I no use to have this installed for the majority of non NVIDIA HD Audio Codec Motherboards, just run the application in the folder.
Drivers from 196.34 will have the above.
Tested 196.34 with Windows 7 x64.
Windows 7 x32 should also now install with Setup.exe
Enjoy.
